Dharan is a lovely small town situated at the foot hill of the mighty Himalayas in the Eastern Region of Nepal. This town is one of the most important industrial, economic and educational centers in the region and entree to the eastern hills and mountains of Nepal. Dharan, being situated in the foot hills of Siwalik/Chure Mountains, has a mixture of tropical and sub-tropical climate and vegetation. The summer here is warm having a maximum average temperature of 32oC and the winter very pleasant having a minimum average temperature of 10oC.
It has mixed ethnicity comparing of Rai, Limbu, Gurung, Magar, Brahmin, Chhetri, Newar and others. The people of Dharan are social.
Dharan is connected with a domestic airport in Biratnagar, about 50 kilometers South, with a strong metalled road. From Itahari it is 17 kilometers North. This road passes through Dharan connecting Dhankuta, about 52 kilometers North. Dharan is easily approached from Siliguhri, New Jalpaiguhri in West Bengal and Katihar in Bihar. Trip to Dhankuta, Hile and Basantapur would definitely be a remarkable one for anyone. The panaromic views of the majestic mountains and Himalayas seen from Hile and Basantapur will never be enough to anyone who loves nature.
The cultural diversity is another important aspect of Dharan. The place is a heritage of Hindu, and Buddhist pilgrims. Baraha- chhetra, Dantakali, Pindeswar, Budha Subha and Panchakanya temples are the famous holy palces one should not miss to visit. Shiva jatta is a place to go who loves trekking. One should not miss Bhendetar tour the way to Dhankuta.
